Hudson House Team Shortlisted for Two National Social Care Awards

The team at Hudson House in Whitby is celebrating after being shortlisted in two categories at the Stars of Social Care Awards 2026.

Hudson House has been named a finalist in both the Rising Stars Team Award and The Unsung Stars Award, recognising the dedication, compassion and commitment shown by colleagues across the service.

The nominations reflect the significant progress made at Hudson House over the past year under the leadership of service manager Sandra Rolfe, who joined the service during a period of considerable change.

Since taking on the role, Sandra has worked closely with the team to rebuild morale, strengthen values and create a positive culture focused on delivering the best possible support for the people living at Hudson House. The team is now recognised for its proactive approach, strong teamwork and commitment to person-centred care.

This renewed focus is already making a meaningful difference to the individuals supported by the service. In one recent example, the team helped a gentleman, who was very unwell, fulfil a lifelong ambition of riding in a tractor. The experience was expanded into a personalised visit to a local farm, giving him the opportunity to fully enjoy something that held deep personal meaning.

Alongside supporting individual goals and aspirations, the team has also introduced new initiatives aimed at enriching daily life within the service. These include a garden project where residents and colleagues are growing their own fruit and vegetables as part of a wider sustainability initiative.

Martyn Heginbotham, chief executive of Milewood, said: “Since joining Hudson House, Sandra has transformed the team in ways that are nothing short of remarkable. When she arrived, morale was low and the service had lost its sense of direction following several management changes.

“Sandra stepped in with energy, empathy and a clear vision, working closely with the team to rebuild confidence, values and purpose. Her leadership has reignited passion across the service, and the team is now thriving.

“Their commitment to person-centred support is evident in everything they do, from helping someone achieve a lifelong dream to developing new initiatives that enhance daily life. I couldn’t be prouder of what they have achieved so far, and I am delighted to see their efforts recognised at a national level.”
