Milewood Healthcare Ltd (and associate subsidiary companies) are proud of our diverse workforce, (which includes successful sponsorship of non-UK citizens) and are committed to the principles of The Modern Slavery Act 2015 and to the prevention of slavery and human trafficking. This statement lays out our approach to ensuring that modern slavery or human trafficking is not taking place within our organisation (including employees and service users) or our supply chain.
Whilst we believe the risk of slavery across our organisation is low due to the types of services we operate, we are committed to a number of internal reviews and practices in order to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not present within our organisation. These include:
- Regularly reviewing our policies in a scheduled manner, or if it is identified that a change is needed due to changes in best practice or legislation
- Continuously improving and testing that our Safeguarding policies and Recruitment policies are robust and that there is a constant focus on compliance and safer recruitment
- Supporting the welfare of all staff through a number of additional good practice approaches. These include undertaking checks around personal identification and bank details
- Providing safeguarding training for all staff and more tailored training for managers to aid in spotting potential behaviours which may suggest that colleagues or service users are in slavery, and what to do in those circumstances
- Providing modern slavery awareness guidance to all employees
- Conducting person-centred risk assessments (where appropriate this would include safeguarding and modern slavery) to inform the support and clinical treatment delivered to all service users
We have, and will continue at least annually, to undertake due diligence by inviting our suppliers to complete a survey, and where necessary produce a report detailing:
- What processes they follow and what approach they are taking to ensure that slavery and human trafficking do not exist in their operations or their supply chain
- Whether they undertake regular audits of their operations and supply chain
- Whether they work with their suppliers to identify the overall risks of slavery and human trafficking
- That they have a robust recruitment process and understand the recruitment processes of their supply chain, and relevant management training on slavery and human trafficking is delivered
- That they certify that all materials incorporated into their final product were sourced, processed, and manufactured in compliance with the human trafficking and slavery laws of the country, or countries, in which they operate
Any concerns are identified and an action plan put into place to rectify the concerns. This may include but is not limited to, rewriting a process or policy, rolling out more in-depth training around identifying slavery and human trafficking, working with suppliers to make changes to their processes or ending relationships with suppliers.
We are confident that we have sufficient measures in place to deal with any modern slavery or human trafficking concerns. The Whistleblowing policy has been updated to explicitly include what an employee should do if they have modern slavery concerns and how to report it.
The risks linked to modern slavery will continue to be assessed and managed on a regular basis as part of Milewood’s Risk Management measures. The risks, along with existing and required control measures, are included on Milewood’s organisational risk register which are reviewed ahead of each board meeting.
