Holgate House, a specialist residential care home in York, has been rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following its latest assessment.
Holgate House, operated by Milewood, is a residential care service supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health conditions.
The home was rated ‘Good’ Which is an improvement from its Requires Improvement inspection in April 2023.
The report stated: “Care was kind, respectful and person-centred, and people told us they were treated with dignity and as individuals.”
It also noted: “There was an inclusive and welcoming approach at the service to ensure everyone felt valued and differences were embraced.”
The report commended the leadership at home stating: “Leaders and the culture they created promoted high-quality, person-centred care.”
Inspectors found people felt safe living at the service, supported by a consistent staff team who knew them well and responded promptly to their needs. They also recognised improvements in leadership, with people, staff and professionals reporting positive changes in the culture of the service and governance systems being strengthened to support continued improvement.

“The report highlights the positive progress made across the service and provides a strong foundation for continued improvement.”
