Kate Smith, registered manager at Milewood Supported Living in York, has been shortlisted in the prestigious senior leader category at this year’s Housing with Care Awards.
Organised by Care Talk, the awards celebrate excellence in accommodation and support services across integrated retirement communities, supported living, assisted living, extra care housing, and more.
Kate was nominated for her unwavering passion for supported living and her outstanding commitment to achieving positive outcomes for the people within her schemes. Known for consistently going above and beyond, Kate is a strong advocate for her tenants, ensuring their voices are heard and their choices respected. She has also successfully embedded the REACH standards into her schemes, further strengthening person-centred support and independence. REACH is the name for the 11 standards people with learning disabilities have said they expect from supported living.
Speaking about the shortlisting, Kate said: “I’m incredibly proud to be recognised in this way. Supporting people to live independent, fulfilling lives is what drives me every day, and I feel very fortunate to work alongside such a passionate and dedicated team at Milewood.”
Martyn Heginbotham, chief executive of Milewood, added: “Kate is an exceptional leader whose energy, compassion and drive have a lasting impact on the people we support. Her commitment to high standards and advocacy for tenants truly sets her apart. We’re absolutely delighted to see her recognised at a national level.”
The winners of the Housing with Care Awards will be announced at a ceremony later this year.
