Milewood Individual Care and Support is celebrating a major achievement as two of its Stockton-based homes have been named finalists in three categories for the prestigious Great British Care Awards for the North East and Scotland.
Glenthorne Court is proudly represented by Julie Nottingham, who has been shortlisted in the Care Home Worker of the Year category. Julie’s dedication to the service users is exemplary, and her nomination highlights the exceptional care she provides every day. Julie is also a finalist in the Care Employee of the Year Award at the Caring UK awards.
“The service users adore her, and I couldn’t think of a better person to be nominated than Julie. She always puts 110% into her work and is willing to go above and beyond for everyone. Julie always has time for the service users, and her smile never wavers, no matter how challenging the day is. She also makes time for staff and their problems. Julie is a kind and caring person, and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this award.”
A relative of a service user added, “Julie always ensures that whoever she is supporting receives 10,000 percent person-centred care. She has consistently delivered an outstanding standard of care to every resident without fail. Julie is genuinely kind, compassionate, and caring, and we are delighted she has been recognised for her incredible contribution.”
In addition, Ged Devine and the team at Cleveland Villas have been shortlisted in both the Care Home Team and the Care Innovator categories. Cleveland Villas is a bespoke service opened in 2024 to support a service user with very complex needs and challenging behaviours. Since admission, there have been no instances of high-level behaviours, a remarkable achievement considering the service user’s history of daily behavioural incidents in previous placements.
The nomination noted that: “This service has truly transformed the quality of life for the individual involved, to a degree that cannot be measured. He now presents as happy, relaxed, and settled. The staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that this placement will be his final one, giving him a clear plan for the future. He has developed his living skills and now takes pride in everyday tasks such as making his bed, doing his laundry, and even making his own hot chocolate.”
Martyn Heginbotham, chief executive of Milewood, expressed his pride in the teams’ achievements: “This is testament to the exceptional dedication and innovative care provided by our staff. Julie Nottingham and the Cleveland Villas team have demonstrated what person-centred care and support truly mean. We are honoured to have them as part of the Milewood family and thrilled to see their hard work recognised.”
The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence across the care sector, and Milewood’s nominations reflect its ongoing commitment to delivering outstanding care and support to individuals with complex needs.
Winners will be announced at a gala event later this year.
