Lowestoft residential service takes strides to support autism – fundraising team nears target

The Grove at Lowestoft, part of Milewood, is already on its way to becoming the top fundraising team for the Walk for Autism initiative, raising vital funds to support individuals with autism in their communities.

With over a month before the official event begins, the team’s original target of £500 has almost been met, and they are now aiming to raise at least £2,000 with help from the local community.

The Walk for Autism challenge, run by Autism Initiatives Group, encourages participants to walk 10,000 steps every day between March 26 and April 2. To date, staff members Donna Pointer and Tyler Hunt, along with a resident of The Grove, have raised £456 with almost a month still left to fundraise.

Donna Pointer, who has a child with autism, shared her personal connection to the cause. “When speaking about autism, so many people focus on bad behaviour, but that’s far from the full story,” Donna explained. “There needs to be more inclusivity because where there is disability, there is absolutely so much ability!”

Kylie Butler, manager of The Grove, expressed her pride in the team’s efforts. “It’s fantastic that so much money has already been raised and we are currently fifth in the national team league table. We are excited to get started with our 10,000-step challenge in March. It would be wonderful if, with the support of the Lowestoft community, we could raise as much as possible for autism or simply spread the word that it can be a positive diagnosis and doesn’t just mean challenges..”
