About Willow Tree House
Here at Willow Tree House, we strive to promote independence and dignity – this promise from us extends to local communities & activities too! Our Tenants benefit from great communal links, we have tenants enrolled in local colleges and places of work to give all our Tenants the transferable experience they need to progress, activities, and general day to day living which in turn (we feel) provides a better quality of life and a firm sense of wellbeing.
We have a bonus here at Willow Tree House because we’re only a 15-minute bus ride from the city centre. We have great public transport to allow us to get anywhere in York in under 30 minutes, and we also have one of the best rail infrastructures in the country to give us that extra bit of freedom to travel anywhere! Haxby is located by the River Foss, north of York and south-west of Strensall. Haxby is bordered on the east by the River Foss, and to the west by the village of Wigginton, whose expansion has caused the two settlements to form a continuous urban environment. To the south is the village of New Earswick and the York Outer Ring Road (A1237) with the open farmland to the north as far as the villages of Sutton-on-the-Forest and Strensall.
Our Tenants here at Willow Tree House also have great links to our other supported services here in York. We do weekly activities alongside the other houses to allow our Tenants to build meaningful relationships with people who understand the structure of supported living and who understand that we strive to teach and learn the skills needed to ultimately be independent in our lives. A few of the activities are listed here:
- Flamingo Land
- Haxby Scarecrow Trail
- Communal BBQ’s
- Mother Shipton’s Cave
- Birds of Prey Centre
This is simply a few! There’s a new activity every weekend supported by a full staff team across all three of the supported living services.
A home from home...
At Willow Tree House everything we do is based on choice. The Tenants choice of activity, their choice of meals, their choice on clothing to name a few. However, it doesn’t stop there. We use a multi-agency approach to help design and collate an individual’s care plan to best support their needs. Individuals staying with us get to choose every detail that is included in this, alongside which family & friends have an input.
We cater to a wide range of needs here at Willow Tree House, from Autism, Asperger’s, Mental health diagnosis. There is nothing our staff cannot handle. Our staff team is rigorously trained in all aspects of care. We receive specialised training to deal with complex situations and needs, as well as comprehensive training on how to deescalate behaviours that may challenge.
Our team of highly skilled and trained staff will work alongside individuals to help create, maintain, and adapt a routine that best serves the individual Tenant so we can help them on their road to independence. We have previously made “timetables” at Tenants behest to allow them to have a visual representation of tasks that they would like to complete, and a realistic timescale to allow them to reach this goal.
