Sutton House praised for quality of care and support by Nottinghamshire County Council

Sutton House in Nottingham, part of Milewood, has been praised by Nottinghamshire County Council for the quality of its care and support following a recent Contract Compliance and Quality Audit.

The report commended the service for its person-centred approach and high standards, noting that “Care and Support Plans were clear, concise and easy to navigate, focused on individual strengths and personal preferences, and reflective of the initial assessment of need.”

Inspectors highlighted how Sutton House goes the extra mile to tailor care to each individual. One example shared in the report described how a resident likes to be asked each morning how they would like to be addressed that day, often choosing to take on the name of a favourite film or game character, reflecting the team’s dedication to personal choice and creativity in care.

The report also praised the home’s consistency in reviewing and updating care plans: “We saw that Care and Support Plans were evaluated, reviewed and updated monthly so they reflected current Care and Support needs, usually on the first of the month.”

In addition, the Council found that Sutton House focuses strongly on the people it supports, recognising their abilities and aspirations. The audit noted: “We saw evidence that the Provider focused on the person’s abilities, personal qualities, achievements, wants, wishes and aspirations. The Support Plan recognised that the person is the expert in knowing what they need and want and in identifying how their needs and wants can best be met.”

Sutton House provides specialist residential support for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs, helping residents to live fulfilling and independent lives.

Kieran Mann, regional manager for Milewood, said: “We’re absolutely delighted with this feedback from Nottinghamshire County Council. It’s a real credit to our team at Sutton House who work so hard to make sure every person we support feels listened to, respected, and empowered in their daily life.”

Martyn Heginbotham, chief executive of Milewood, added: “This report highlights exactly what Milewood stands for, person-centred, empowering care that focuses on people’s strengths and individuality. I’m very proud of the Sutton House team for creating such a positive, enabling environment.”
