Laura Stokes, Deputy Manager at Glenthorne Court, Stockton on Tees, has been named a finalist in the highly competitive Deputy Manager of the Year category of the National Care Awards.
The annual event recognises excellence in the long-term care sector, celebrating those who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable.
Laura’s nomination noted that ‘The hard work and dedication she has shown in her role has been a beacon for others’ and ‘she is an inspiration to staff and service users and faces each challenge with optimism and a strong will to succeed.’
One service user said that ‘Laura should win the award because she is very, very funny and always makes me smile. She is always helpful and makes sure I have the right medication and if I need any she makes sure I get them. She’s always been very kind and has always helped me with my mental health and if its been bad she sat for long times and talked to me until I feel better.’
Colleagues also praised Laura saying ‘She is always approachable and will always try her hardest any issues or problems, making sure everyone is taken care of. She has a kind, caring attitude and we love having her as part of our leadership and we fell very grateful for having her.’
Glenthorne Court, operated by Milewood Individual Care and Support, is a residential care home that provides crucial support to individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs. The home is staffed 24 hours a day, with a dedicated team supporting residents in every aspect of their lives, from personal care to developing daily living skills, fostering independence, and enhancing quality of life.
Laura Stokes said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be a finalist in such an important category. It’s a real honour to be recognised, but this achievement is truly a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire team at Glenthorne Court. Supporting our residents to live fulfilling lives is at the heart of everything we do, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this amazing team.”
