About Holgate House

As part of Holgate House’s ideals, we try to source local charities, businesses and tourist attractions, to find new and exciting ways to improve the lives of the individuals living here. With a dedicated staff team who always has their finger on the pulse with local events, large or small, near or far.

These typically include popular pub visits, attending local clubs and societies and ‘retail therapy’. There are also several leisure pursuits or local tourist spots available for service users on a regular basis, such as:

  • Walking
  • Gardening
  • Discos
  • Cinema
  • Swimming

Being near the centre of York means all the famous attractions such as the castle walls, are all within a short walking distance.

Holgate House encourages all its service users to live their best lives, constantly looking for new ways to engage them in local projects, decoration of the home and various local placements.

A home from home...

Holgate House is a vastly experienced provider of supporting people with more complex needs, including those with profound and multiple learning disabilities, physical or mental, and challenging behaviour.

Our varied range of service users has a multitude of different needs and support that we aim to supply them with on a day-to-day basis, from simply being able to sit with a coffee and have a chat, to taking out larger groups of individuals on trips to the coast.

Our highly trained team consists of committed individuals who are passionate about meeting the practical, social and emotional needs of the service users in their care and often go the extra mile to ensure daily life is as fulfilling for them as possible.
Our service users have choices too – such as deciding how your home is run, choosing your support workers and picking how you want to decorate your bedroom.

Holgate House is incredibly proud of its “Good” rating with CQC and strives to maintain the high standards we have set ourselves. We have many success stories of individuals who have lived here and moved on to be independent or improved their quality of life, and we’d love to create & share in new ones!

This service is currently rated Requires Improvement by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This rating relates to an inspection done on  the 2 June 2023

A Requires Improvement rating does not mean that people are unsafe or that care is not being delivered. It highlights areas where the CQC has identified opportunities for further development.

Since the inspection, we have worked closely with our internal quality team on a service improvement plan which focussed on the areas raised in the inspection and was overseen by senior leaders. We carry our regular audits which ensure continued compliance and best practice.

We remain fully compliant with CQC regulations and are committed to continuous improvement. Our priority is, and always will be, to provide safe, person centred care that supports people to live happy, independent, and fulfilling lives.
