About Caedmon House
At Caedmon House we have very good community links with local businesses, tourist attractions and services. It is always our ambition to find new ways for the people we support to achieve their goals and enrich their lives.
The home works with the people we support to have holidays, of their choosing, and to destinations which they have selected. Sometimes these holidays have been combined with visiting family members or simply for sightseeing. Popular destinations have included Edinburgh and Butlin’s although the home has supported individuals on holiday to destinations such as Geneva.
The home has a dedicated, on site, activities coordinator who works with the rest of the staff team to deliver for the needs of the people we support. These activities can include arts and crafts, walking, membership of a local football club, access to the leisure centre, gardening, cinema trips, discos and attending live sporting events, to name but some.
The home maintains good links with two local farm placements, through which aside from the traditional activities one might expect at a farm such as tending to animals, the people we support can also access gardening, cooking, woodworking and educational courses.
The homes in Whitby run a weekly social club, with a local day service, which many of the people we support attend. This club also organises additional activities.
Caedmon House seeks to encourage all the people we support to achieve their aims and will seek to personalise activities based on these needs and desires.
A home from home...
Caedmon House has a lot of experience, with supporting people with complex needs, learning disabilities, behaviour that challenges and mental health needs. The home is very proud of the work we have completed with the people we support, which has seen some of them move onto more independent living.
The home uses a person-centred approach in delivering care which is tailor made to the needs of the individual and always seeks to ensure that the people we care for are, and feel, valued. Individualised plans of care are created, wherever possible, incorporating the wishes of the people we support and others who they would want to be involved in their care.
The highly trained staff team at Caedmon House are committed and passionate in supporting the individuals in our care and in meeting their needs. Every person we support will get to have choice over two keyworkers, from the staff team.
The staff team seeks to involve the people we support in all aspects of the running of the home, including with recruitment, helping to maintain health and safety, how the home is decorated and the activities that they engage in.
Supported living
Caedmon House is a large townhouse, situated on the Whitby West Cliff. There are a total of nine en-suite rooms, which the home decorates to the specifications of the people we care for. There are also three kitchens in the home, two laundry rooms and three lounges.
The home has a large staff team including the home manager, deputy manager and two senior support workers. Staff members complete a range of training and have completed diplomas in health and social care, ranging from level two to level five. Alongside the extensive training programme that is in place the home will also source specialist training, should this be required to meet the needs of specific individuals in our care.
The home operates a health and safety committee and seeks to involve the people we support in this, alongside the completing of regular daily, weekly, and monthly checks.
The home maintains excellent relationships with local health services and works closely with them to achieve the best outcomes.
